How to use
Choose whether you start from unit cost or from a desired retail price. Enter your target margin or markup and any channel discounts (wholesale off MSRP, distributor cuts).
Apply the suggested wholesale or sell-in price to quotes and line sheets, then sanity-check against competitor shelves and your volume breaks.
How the numbers work
- From cost: price ≈ cost ÷ (1 − target margin) when margin is a percent of price.
- From markup: price ≈ cost × (1 + markup) when markup is percent of cost.
- Wholesale off MSRP ≈ MSRP × (1 − wholesale discount).
- Validate that wholesale still clears your contribution after freight and payment terms.
- Educational model only; not pricing-legal counsel.
FAQ
Margin vs markup — which should I use?
Margin is profit ÷ price; markup is profit ÷ cost. Pick one definition and stay consistent so quotes do not mix formulas.
Can I include volume tiers?
Run the tool once per tier with the matching unit cost and discount. Export or note each tier on your line sheet.
Does this set MAP policy for me?
No. MAP and channel policies are business/legal decisions. Merqly only solves the arithmetic you enter.
